The seaport of Harlingen is located in the North of the Netherlands in the province Fryslan.
Harlingen has an open connection via Waddensea with the Northsea and is a tidal seaport.
The port is used by a great diversion of ships i.e. cargovessels, passengerferries to and from the Waddensea islands Terschelling and Vlieland, fishingtrawlers, sailing boats and privat boats. Harlingen has excellent connections with the industrial hinterland via Waddensea / IJsselmeer to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Duisburg ( Germany ) or via Harinxmakanaal ( canal ) to Leeuwarden, Groningen.
There are also in Harlingen excellent road connections to the inland ( highway ).
