Customer's Reviews:
MK
This company is a scam. They quote you one price then compound "additional" charges once they have your items in their possesion. They hold your goods for ransom because they know you will pay them if you ever want to see your goods again. Customer service is a total joke. They cannot and will not answer any questions. If they say they will call you back, don't hold your breath. Its been almost three months and I have not seen my goods. I was quoted $3175 and 4 weeks. 12 weeks and $7,051.69 later, I have no idea when I will recieve my goods.
CM
I can only agree with MK. We have been waiting for 3 months for our items and are still hoping we will one day see them again. Do NOT use this company!
Alison
We hired Global Ocean Freight, Inc. to move us from the US to the UK. Our belongings were picked up in December 2007 and we are still waiting as they have not paid the local shipping agent and our goods are now being held for ransom until Global Ocean pay what they owe. We are going on five months of waiting. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

I am in the same situation as Alison. My belongings were picked up on February 2008. we told several representatives of Global Ocean Freight that our belongings should be stored for 30 dyas before shipping then to Spain, which they failed t do. As a result, we had to leave the United States before planned in order to be in Spain. GOF then assured us that everything would be fine, they would leave our things stored for a month in England free of charge and then ship them to Spain. Now we hear that the English cmpany has not been paid and our belongings are been held. It's ben 4 months since we had them picked up in the US. I regret bitterly having ever contracted this company for our move. We can't work without our equipment, my husband can't have a medical light unit which was shipped with our things, and it's suffering the consequences of that. We may have to end up paying the English company the same amount already paid to GOF in order to have our belongings back. DON'T ever deal with this company and spare yourself a lot of headache. They are dishonest and unprofessional.

Our belongings were picked up in march 08 to move from US to UK and till date no idea where it is, this time their excuse king vessel was over booked and cannot promise when ours will have the privilege to board that ship to get here. I think we should all make this company go out of business

To friend who want to do business with Global Ocean Freight,
I just know that professional word doesn’t exist to the owner of Global Ocean Freight, Eti.
I would like to warn customer who wants to use service from Global Ocean Freight Company which is the worst company that I haven’t seen before.
I come from Thailand as a developing country to study Master Degree in Engineering Management. I believe that US has a very good representation in business until I had to deal with Global Ocean Freight Company. It is really UNBELIEVABLE!!! How they run business. It seems they don’t understand their job very well or don’t have responsibilities in business toward to customer satisfactions.
I and my boyfriend hired them to move our stuffs to Bahrain. These are what we got and you will get.
• Delay on shipment
• No communicate between employees, in my case, driver did not know how much stuffs we had, so they did not prepare enough room on truck to fit our stuff, so we had to leave stuff in US.
• Delay!!! ON schedule without any phone call to confirm what is going on and what is next plan.
• Over charge on packing stuff. This comes from one employee that works for them. He told me that believe me AJ!!They are unreasonable over charge even though they told you they will not charge.
• You will have a difficult time to contact them when you already pay money for your seevice.
• The owner of the company, Eti, looks down immigrant. In my case she said that she did not speak my language and hang up phone when she doesn’t want to talk or mad that I follow up my stuff that they suppose to send it to us, even though she is immigrant who has an accent that difficult to understand and never realized. She has bad temper as well. IT IS UNPROFESSIONAL and she will give you impolite words when you asking them to send your stuff that they suppose to send to you.
I have heard sentence “you get what you pay” It is not true at all for them.
It is “you get worst than what you pay”.
All in all, I hope you think hard before you are going to do business with them. They are a lot of good company that you should able to find, and you can enjoy your life after move to new place than sit and worry about your stuffs.
Hope my experiences are useful for you.

I used Global Ocean Freight for relocation from France to Upstate NY. My experience was downright horrible.
First, they could not (or did not make an adequate effort) to find a local mover to pick up my shipment. They only found a local agent 5 days before I was to board the plane to leave France for the US. In the meantime, I was under a lot of stress, wondering what to do with my possessions. While my goods were in transit, GOF kept sending me extra-low-res versions of customs forms that I had to complete several times over because their customs broker rejected the forms as unreadable. They finally referred me to the US customs web site, because they (professionals!) did not have the right forms.
Second, they billed me $1000 over the contract amount of $5,200 for extra demurrage and storage, because, according to them, "the customs took 5 extra days to clear my shipment.” I paid. Recently, I contacted the port and found out that my shipment took 1 day to clear customs. This suggests that GOF defrauded me.
Third, GOF demanded that I pay the $1000 extra charge "immediately." (By the way, “immediately” is not a clear instruction, nor is it a business concept/term.) I paid the same day by billpay. They came back the next day and said that because the payment was not by wire, they would hold the shipment in storage at an extra cost of $500. This was a standard hold up. I was trying to reason and complain, but the management of GOF made itself unavailable. It was brazen. They would not take my calls. They became offensive.
My read of Global Ocean Freight is that they are a highly unethical, potentially criminal operation. Their business model is to attract customers by low-balling the competition. They make money by under-delivering and adding imaginary charges. (Case in point, they also charged me for packing services and materials that I did not use. I managed to fight off that charge because it was stated on the front of my contract that I would pack myself. They said it was in error. However, other posts re: GOF show an unequivocal pattern.) And by the way, a month later, they still haven’t provided me with a receipt indicating all my payments, despite my multiple requests. Yet, I needed the receipt for reimbursement. This company is nothing but trouble. Stay away from it!

Unfortunately, I've used Global Ocean Freight for an international move - it was a very bad experience.
My original quote was for $8,350.00 for a 40 foot high cube container delivered to the destination - door to door. After the container arrived at a customs clearing agent at the destination, Global Ocean Freight billed me in excess of $14,000.00. Of course, they would not release the container to the final destination until the bill was paid in full. Plus, for every extra day the container stays at the clearing agent while the invoice is contested, there's a hefty surcharge added to the amount owing.
Basically, Global Ocean Freight plays an interesting game. Even though a container will hold 2695 cubic feet as stated in their advertising materials and their web site, they have a clause in their contract that states --> "Please keep in mind that upon packing and loading, your goods will take up more space. Do not exceed the calculated volume of 2200 cubic feet for a 40- Foot H/C container, this will allow room for loading"
Note that the requirement to ship no more than 2200 cubic feet per 40 foot H/C container is not a contractual obligation - the above quoted phrase is only providing advice for loading.
So - even if all of your goods fit into the container, if Global Ocean Freight calculates the volume to be greater than the advised 2200 cubic feet, they charge an additional fee per cubic foot for overflow/excess volume. Also note that the calculation is performed by Global Ocean Freight and there is no recourse to dispute this calculation.
In my case, that additional fee was several thousand dollars...
I gave copies of the contract and invoice to several lawyers and the Federal Maritime Commission. Without exception, all were of the opinion that Global Ocean Freight's contract, calculation methodology and the additional fees added to the invoice would be successfully contested in a court of law.
You may wish to contact the Federal Maritime Commission and several other US Government agencies to enquire about each specific moving company. They will tell you information like the number of complaints, number of resolved complaints, whether the company is licensed, insured, etc... It's a worthwhile inquiry and will help to weed out the dishonest companies... All of these agency's URLS are just a quick google away...
Hope this helps... Good luck...

Do not use this company. They will overcharge on packing. They will not pay the receiving agent on time resulting in additional charges. What they say and what they do are totally different.

I wish I'd read this forum before using them to ship my household goods from California to Ireland. It's been over 6 months and I still have not received my goods. Customer service is obviously not a term this company is familiar with. Their customer service team also has literacy issues, and it's a waste of time trying to have any communication with them.
Two others are part of this shipment and in the same boat as I am. My container # is MEDU 1102801, Vessel name MSC FLAMINIA, arrived in FELIXSTOWE port 14th Nov 08. If you are out there, please make contact as I would like to ask how you are proceeding with this.

I'm another dissatisfied customer, and like everyone listed here wish I had done more research. But there you go. My goods are in Beirut after a month delay in arriving and have been sitting in port for the last two weeks as shipping line refuse to release due to some unpaid bills (assuming Global did not pay). Will update on this website the outcome! BUYER BEWARE!!! GLOBAL OCEAN FREIGHT IS RADIOACTIVE!!! Those complaining here, is there a way we can file a class action suit?
Leigh
Another seething customer….
Global lowballed the quote, arrived with a van that was too small, charged extra for packing material, were not on time for collection (I had to cancel and re-schedule flights out….TWICE….with subsequent cost) and then ran out of packing material. If I ever see my goods again, I do not know what sort of condition they may be in.
My goods took 3 months to get across the ocean (they didn’t even get out of the US for 2 months !) and are now stuck in Singapore without being cleared because Global have not paid the shipping company (and of course, Global insist on payment in full, in advance).
Global Ocean Freight is not a company to deal with……Be warned……
My partners-in-misery above mention a class-action law-suit ….I am in…..any of the people whose lives they have seriously impacted through blatant dishonest, misrepresentation, unethical behavior and sheer incompetence a lawyer willing to take up the case ?
Ann Chaplin
The company is a complete scam. We hired them to move our goods to Europe. They did NOTHING. We had to hire another company to go get the goods & got no refund from GOF. DON'T USE THEM.
Kris
Just got an e-mail from GOF, they have gone out of business! My shipment is almost at hand and local shipping company here about to release it, but am concerned if this will impact my shipment somehow! is there a way to find out if GOF is being investigated and why they're going out of business? Of course I'm happy they'll no longer be yanking people's chain, but concerned that they've made an easier escape going out of business!!
Rick
I paid GOF $8,900 for a door-to-door move from San Francisco to Mexico, and the let their Mexican agent hold my goods 2 mo to extort an additional $13,000. We filed a $4,900 insurance claim for "lost" & damaged goods an have been ignored. I would welcome a class action suit!
Larry
This company is a rip off, I was taken in the same way of low ball $5000 for a move from US to Sweden. the shipping company in Belgium contacted me as they had not been paid and asked for additional $15000 to deliver. they finally worked it down to $5000 which I paid to get my stuff. They did say to contact Hartford Insurance to file claim but no luck yet. Can we file a class action suit Against the owner because he'll just close the company and open another one.
Simin
It is the worst company I've ever dealt with , my boxes were opened, lots of things broken, and it took forever for them to deliver...don't work with them.
